Akufo-Addo leaves for 74th UN Session

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Thursday, 19 September 2019, led Ghana’s delegation to to the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

While there, the President, as co-Chair of the Advocacy Group of Eminent Persons for the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), will participate in a series of SDGs events.

At the invitation of the President of Princeton University, President Akufo-Addo will deliver a public address at Princeton University on Friday, 20 September, 2019.

The President will also, at the invitation of the President of Rutgers, Mr Robert Barchi, deliver a public address at the Achebe Leadership Forum on Saturday, 21 September 2019.

President Akufo-Addo will also participate in, and deliver remarks at an event to be hosted by the US Corporate Council on Africa (CCA) celebrating the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA), and also participate in a series of UN-related side meetings.

The President will then address the UN General Assembly on Wednesday, 25 September 2019, and also engage in another round of UN Meetings.

On Saturday, 28 September 2019, the President will be in Toronto, Canada, to participate in the celebration of the 25th-anniversary of the establishment of the Canadian branch of the New Patriotic Party.

Nana Akufo-Addo was accompanied by the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo; Minister of Foreign Affairs Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, Minister for Finance Ken Ofori-Atta; Minister of Trade and Industry Alan Kyerematen; Minister of Planning Prof Gyan Baffuor and officials from the Presidency and Foreign Affairs Ministry.

President Akufo-Addo is expected to return to Ghana on Tuesday, 1 October 2019.

In his absence, Vice-President Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, shall, in accordance with Article 60 (8) of the Constitution, act as the president.
