The AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine, is financing the construction and asphalting of a 1.3-kilometre road in the Obausi Municipality.
The project estimated at GH¢5.7 million is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility initiative in the community.
Mr Eric Asubonteng, the Managing Director of the Company, who made this known at the sod-cutting ceremony at Nhyiaeso in the Obuasi Municipality, said work had already started by Knatto Complex Limited, contractors of the project.
He explained that “the construction of the road is not part of the national level engagement, but our local level decision, which the company discussed with the local leadership.”
Okofo Sobin Kan II, the Dompoasehene commended AngloGold Ashanti for the initiative to construct and asphalt the road, which was a portion of the Obuasi-Dunkwa highway.
He also praised the company for supporting the creation of the Obuasi campus of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
Okofo Kan called on the people in the Adansi enclave to rise solidly behind the company to transform Obuasi and bring it back to its past glories as the most vibrant and enterprising city outside Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital.
Mr. Paul Kwadwo Frimpong, Site Engineer for Knatto Complex, the project was expected to be completed in two months.
