Anthony Annan extends contract with Finnish side Inter Turku as player-coach

Former Black Stars midfielder, Anthony Annan, has signed a one-year contract extension with Finland top-flight side, Inter Turku, as a player-coach.

The 34-year-old played 22 games for the club last season after joining in the middle of the 2019 season from Beitar Jerusalem and has extended his stay with them as a player-coach.

“Anthony Annan, who represented FC Inter in the seasons 2019 and 2020, will also be seen in the Inter-shirt this year,” the club said in a statement on their website.

“The club and the Ghanaian player have signed a one-year contract, with which the experienced Annan will be seen not only on the playing field but also in coaching positions for young people.”

The former Schalke 04 midfielder has played in Germany, Spain, the Netherlands and Norway.

The team’s head coach, Jose Riveiro, says he was certain the 2017 Finnish midfielder of the season with HJK will renew his contract and has a lot to offer.

“Anthony is a confident midfielder, and he showed his skills are still preserved in many matches of the final season. He is a top professional and has a lot to offer both on and off the field.”

Mäki, Inter’s technical director, is delighted to have one of the most meritorious players in the Finnish football involved in the club’s coaching.

“Anthony also wants to think about the time after his career as a player.

“In the further negotiations, we quickly found a solution that was of interest to both parties, in which Inter’s developer of coaching skills Mika Hemmilä supports Anthony’s coaching training.

“At the same time, Anthony will be able to implement and develop practical skills in Inter’s youth coaching.”

The former Hearts of Oak star has featured in 64 matches for Ghana as well as in the 2010 World Cup.
