Residents of Asempanaye, a community in the Techiman North District and nearby villages will no longer trek long distances for drinking water following the official handover of a brand-new solar-powered mechanised borehole on Saturday, 6 December 2025.
The project, a joint effort between the Member of Parliament for Techiman North and Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, and the Techiman North District Assembly, was commissioned amid cheers and singing from hundreds of community members.
Speaking at the short commissioning ceremony, Hon. Ofosu-Adjare described the facility as the fulfilment of a personal pledge she made during the 2024 campaign.
“During the campaign, I stood before you and promised that if you gave President John Dramani Mahama and myself the mandate, Asempanaye would get clean, reliable water. Today, that promise has been kept.” She told the gathering
Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare assured other water-stressed communities in the constituency that their turn is coming soon, revealing that several similar solar-powered boreholes are already at different stages of completion.
“My topmost concern is the wellbeing of the people I serve. Working hand-in-hand with the District Assembly, we will leave no community behind when it comes to potable water.” She stated.
District Chief Executive Hon. Adom Kwabena Johnson, explained that the project falls under President Mahama’s directive to dedicate at least 10% of every District Assembly’s share of the Common Fund to mechanised water systems in rural areas.
“The provision of potable drinking water in our rural communities is a great priority for our President, H.E. John Dramani Mahama. As a result, ten percent of the District Assembly Common Fund has been earmarked for the construction of mechanized boreholes in rural communities across the country. In line with this, the office of our Member of Parliament collaborated with the District Assembly to provide this solar-powered mechanized borehole.” He told our reporter.

To guarantee the facility’s durability, Hon. Ofosu-Adjare inaugurated a seven-member Water and Sanitation Management Committee. The committee chairman, Mr. Alale Aparigu, pledged that members would protect and maintain the system so that even unborn generations would benefit.
“On behalf of the committee, I want to assure Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare and Hon. Adom Kwabena Johnson that we will take very good care of this project so that it serves its purpose, even for future generations.”
Some residents who spoke with our reporter expressed joy and relief, noting that they had struggled for years to find a reliable water source. They described the new facility as a major breakthrough that would improve their health and quality of life.
“We are very grateful to Hon. Elizabeth and President Mahama for giving us this water; we are truly lost for words.
“This is not the first time our MP has done something like this for us. She has already commissioned several water projects in the district, and she continues to do more to ensure that all her constituents have access to good drinking water. We are very grateful.
“We have been crying for a good water source, and our MP has finally come to our aid. She has provided us with a mechanized borehole, and we are extremely happy and grateful.”
