The Atebubu Amantin Municipal Assembly in the Bono East Region has made a donation to residents of Yabraso who were displaced by bushfire in February this year.
The items were 10 packets of roofing sheets, 50 bags of cement, 10 bales of second-hand clothes and a cash amount of GHC500.
The items were donated to the residents on behalf of the Assembly by the Municipal Chief Executive, Honourable Edward Owusu.
The gesture by the Assembly is geared towards helping the victims to make a fresh start in life following the tragedy that struck the community.
Honourable Edward Owusu told the community that the Assembly feels obliged to assist them as they make efforts to make a new beginning.
“We are all aware of the disaster that happened to you a month ago. We as an Assembly cannot ignore you in these trying moments, so we are here today to present these items to you. We have brought 10 packets of roofing sheets, 50 bags of cement, 10 bales of second-hand clothes and a cash amount of GHC500. This is the Assembly’s support to you as you seek to make a fresh start in life”.
He charged them to make effective use of the items by ensuring that the items are shared equitably.
On how to safeguard their community against bushfires, the MCE urged them to take fire precautionary measures seriously in order to prevent such occurrences in future.
The residents expressed their gratitude to the Assembly but decried the slow pace of investigations to establish the cause of the fire and called on the committee set up for that purpose to expedient action.
More than 150 people made up of over 50 households in the community were displaced by bushfire which swept through the village.
The residents lost all their properties in the inferno, a situation which has compelled them to either sleep in the open or put up with friends in nearby communities.
