AUDIO: How a primary 5 pupil quit school after teacher called her a witch

The harassment of a primary school teacher has forced a 15-year-old girl to drop out of school.

The victim, Lucy Akati, has vowed not to return to the Atkokwagu D/A Basic School in the Bono region after her teacher called her a witch.

Narrating her ordeal to Adom News, the young girl said her teacher told her only a witch will be intelligent with beautiful handwriting like hers.

She explained that they were asked to write an easy of themselves and she was the first to finish.

When the teacher was going round to inspect their work and got to her table, she screamed in amazement after seeing her nice handwriting and what she had written about herself.

Instantly, Lucy said her teacher asked her how she was able to write such a beautiful piece of herself in such nice handwriting.

Due to her inability to give a convincing answer, her teacher called her a witch and asked all her friends not to play with her.

Lucy said news of her being a witch spread like a wildfire in the school and even the Atkokwagu Township.

“People in school call me a witch because of what the teacher told me in class,” she bemoaned.

Lucy, who has not been to school for the past year, said she will only return to the classroom if she is enrolled in a school in a different town.

Her distraught mother, Abena Martha said all attempts to get her daughter back to school has proved futile due to the stigma.

She said her daughter always returns home crying and complains of bullying and teasing in school.

Madam Abena Martha called on the school authorities to punish the teacher for ruining her daughter’s life.
