Avoid Corporal Punishment For Your Own Good – Education Director Warns

The Municipal Director for Asokore-Mampong Education Directorate in the Ashanti Region, Dr. William Kwame Amankra Appiah has called on teachers across the nation to avoid corporal punishment, because it does not help in our current system of education.
The new Director who replaced Hajia Katumi Natogmah Attah made this comment during a one day workshop organized by United Way Ghana, (NGO) for the Guidance and Counselling coordinators for the various schools in the District.
According to Dr. William in an interview with brightwebtv correspondent, Nana Asare Barimah, indicated that Ghana Education Service (GES) has made it clear that no teacher should use cane on a student, and this doesn’t need any further explanations, just stop using cane, because if you are caught in the act, you will face the full rigours of the law.
“There are alternate ways to correct stubborn pupils/ students without necessarily subjecting them to physical pain.”
You can allow him to sweep a large portion or do some scrubbing which is not a bad idea after contact hours,” he said.
