Bawumia embarrassed himself politically, academically with dumsor vs. COVID-19 comparison – Suhuyini

National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Tamale North, Alhassan Suhuyini, has described the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia‘s comparison of Coronavirus pandemic with Dumsor as embarrassing.

He said, Dr. Bawumia exposed himself academically and politically by trying to compare both situations when they have absolutely no correlation with each other.

“Dr. Bawumia in his response (to Mahama) only spoke about data he never shares or shared and even when he does, we all know what he is good at. Comparing apples to oranges. Embarrassing himself academically and politically. In the past, he got away with it but now people are beginning to see it.”

On May 5, 2020 Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia took a swipe at former President John Dramani Mahama for increasing the hardship of Ghanaians during the energy crisis (dumsor) period.

According to Dr. Bawumia, the economy under President Mahama between 2012 and 2016 was so fragile that the former president could not even mitigate and cushion people from an internally created problem like dumsor.

He indicated that the dumsor crisis crippled Ghana’s economy for four years yet, President Mahama never instituted any mitigating measures to curtail it.

Meanwhile, Members of the opposition party have admonished the vice president to refrain from politicising the pandemic which is killing many globally

Speaking on Citi TV/FM’s Big Issue, the MP for Tamale North added that the NPP has contributed nothing to the development of the country since they assumed office.

“He thinks he can still compare a pandemic affecting the world to something like dumsor even though we have Ebola to compare with. When he decides to share data, he avoids Ebola and does the academically ridiculous thing. Bawumia wants us to believe our economy is robust, but ask yourself where is the money government is using to deal with COVID-19 coming from. The first major tranche of money came from the stabilization fund. Since the NPP came into power since 2017, they have contributed nothing to it.”
