Bawumia supports Catholic Church rectorate project

The Vice President of the Republic, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia donated towards the completion of the Catholic priest’s rectorate at the St Paul’s Catholic Church at Walewale in the North East region.

Dr Bawumia who is an indigene of Walewale in the West Mamprusi district, made the donation of GH¢20,000 to the church following a fundraising drive for well-meaning individuals to support the project.

The event was organized by Catholics from the Navrongo-Bolgatanga Diocese resident in Accra and Tema as part of an annual interactive programme with the Bishop of the diocese on issues of development.

On his part, the Bishop of Navrongo-Bolgatanga Diocese, Most Reverend Alfred Agyenta expressed gratitude to Dr. Bawumia for his generosity and kind gesture.

Dr. Bawumia, a Muslim, has been very instrumental in strengthening inter-faith relationship in Ghana over the years and is a regular visitor to most churches within Walewale and at each instance preached religious tolerance.

The St Paul’s Catholic Church building was among hundreds of structures to have been affected by a heavy rainstorm in 2013 which claimed at least four lives and displaced hundreds.

It was described as one of the worst disasters to have been recorded in the area, submerging roads, houses, farms and ripping off roofs including the mission house which housed the priests and served as their offices.
