Hon. Elvis Nyantekye, the assemblyman representing Kyerase Electoral Area in the Suame Municipality of Ashanti, is pleading with the government to take into account the importance of the Birth Certificate and National Identity Card (Ghana Card) in the lives of Ghanaians and to make them free of charge for all citizens.
These, in his opinion, are the only official documents that can establish a person’s nationality and grant them access to the nation’s resources and royal rights.
“I see it needful the government take it into consideration the issuance of Ghana Card and Birth Certificate free of charge to all Ghanaian citizens due its importance role which serves as the only legal document that holds individual citizenship right”. Hon. Nyantekye.
He made this request at a free Birth Certificate Registration event he arranged for the residents of the Kyerase Electoral Area to assist those who are having challenges in registering for access to a Ghana Card.
Over 500 people benefited from the exercise, according to him.
He claimed that the absence of these official documents has violated the citizenship rights of numerous people in several ways, including the ability to vote, apply for a passport and driver’s license, and other rights.
Some of the residents expressed their gratitude to him for organizing such a program that enhances them to acquire a birth certificate and also to enable them to register for the National Identification Card.
He continued by pleading with Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bondu, the majority leader in Parliament and the MP for Suame Constituency, to keep his word and build the River Atafua Bridge for them before the year is out to prevent any catastrophe.
He commends the MP for building new roads and expanding the area’s electrical and water systems.
