Blay acquitted in contempt case; CHRAJ fined GHC5k

The national chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Freddie Blay has been acquitted and discharged of contempt charges against him by the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).

The contempt application was premised on claims by the CHRAJ that the board chairman of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation failed to respond to letter, reminders and subpoena served on him to appear before it to respond to questions over some buses he personally purchased for his party.

But the Commercial Division of the Accra High Court presided over by George Koomson while dismissing the applications said CHRAJ has acted “incompetently and appalling” in such an important national issue.

The court described officers of CHRAJ as being mischievous with the manner the matter has been handled.

Starr News Court Correspondent Muntalla Inusah who was in court reports that a cost of GHc5000 was slapped on CHRAJ.
