The Bono East Deputy Police Commander, ACP Stephen Boadu, has reaffirmed the police service’s commitment to closer collaboration with the media as part of efforts to deepen peace and safety across the region.
At a dinner meeting with members of the Bono East Regional Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), ACP Stephen Boadu engaged with the regional press corps, using the occasion to build rapport and discuss effective ways for the police and media to work together in maintaining public order and promoting responsible journalism.
Commending the media for their contribution to civic education and accountability, the Deputy Bono East Regional Police Commander disclosed that the police view journalists as strategic partners in safeguarding the region.
He noted that greater understanding and cooperation between the two institutions were crucial to ensuring a secure and well-informed society.
He also appealed to journalists to be cautious and fact-check security-related information before publication to prevent fear and misinformation that could heighten tension.
“I strongly believe that we can achieve more when the police and the media work hand in hand. Our shared goal is to protect lives, maintain peace, and build trust within our communities.
“The office of the Bono East Police Command is widely open to journalists within the region to share information with the police for the betterment of our community and region.” He stated.
The engagement followed ACP Boadu’s earlier visit to the Muslim community in Techiman, where he met with religious leaders to discuss peace and coexistence. The two back-to-back interactions, according to him, are part of broader efforts to strengthen partnerships with key stakeholders to sustain harmony in Bono East.
Members of the regional GJA, led by their executives, welcomed the Deputy Commander’s initiative and pledged their commitment to supporting the police in advancing peace, transparency, and responsible communication in the region.
The Bono East GJA Secretary, Anas Sabit, urged members of the Association to cooperate fully with the Police Command and maintain mutual respect in their engagements.
“We cannot build a safer society without mutual trust between the media and the police, as journalists, we must be open with the Police Command and share relevant information that supports public safety.
At the same time, we should show respect to the office of ACP Stephen Boadu and the work the police do to protect our region.”
