Bono East to get cattle ranch to tackle free movement of livestock

The Bono East Regional Minister, Hon. Francis Owusu-Antwi, has announced that plans are far advanced for the establishment of a cattle ranch in the region to address the growing challenge of the free movement of cattle.

He made this assertion during the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected Nkoranza Municipal Assembly Members and their Presiding Member, Mr. Eric Agyei Siakwan.

According to the Minister, one of the districts most affected by the free roaming of cattle is the Nkoranza Municipal, where stray animals continue to destroy crops and pose risks to both farmers and the cattle.

He further revealed that discussions have already taken place with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, and land has been secured for the project at Kintampo.

“Measures have been put in place to tackle the issue of the free movement of cattle in our communities. One of the districts in the region that has been severely affected is the Nkoranza Municipal.

“We plan to establish a cattle ranch with the necessary infrastructure to support proper cattle rearing in the region. I have already discussed the plan with the Ministry of Agriculture, and according to my information, land has been secured for the project in Kintampo.” He stated.

Hon. Owusu-Antwi used the opportunity to urge all district assemblies in the region to develop medium-term development plans that align with the overall vision for the Bono East Region.

“However, since the Bono East Region is quite large, we will need to divide our operational areas into two. The Minister of Agriculture will soon release a policy document to guide the implementation of this project.

“I encourage all districts in the region to develop medium-term development plans. These plans will help provide clear direction for both the districts and the region in the implementation of future development projects.” He said.

The initiative is expected to not only help curb the destruction of farmlands by roaming cattle but also improve animal husbandry practices in the region.
