Bundle of cash burn in Suame house fire; dozens displaced

Dozens are counting their losses as wads of an unspecified amount of hard Ghana Cedi banknotes burn and shred in an inferno that razed down a whole house and it’s adjoining makeshift residential structures in the Suame Municipality of the Ashanti region on Saturday evening.

All other valuable items also seccumbed to the blaze that has displaced many in the wake of the partial lockdown of the area at a time that COVID-19 continues to bite hard at Ghana.

It is unclear what triggered the fire, but eyewitnesses say it started from a two-bedroom apartment and spread rapidly to other rooms, at a time it’s occupants were away around 4PM.

Tenants could only salvage the debris of shredded Cedi notes and skeletons of electrical appliances and furniture.

The fire had already caused the havoc by the time that a team of fire fighters from the Ghana National Fire Service got to the scene.
