The Criminal Division of the Accra High Court presided over by Justice George Boadi has discharged four out of the eight accused persons who have been held in connection with the kidnapping of two Canadian nationals in Kumasi.
The four are Seidu Abubarkar also known as Mba, Abdul Rahman Sulemana, Safiano Abubarkar and Abdul Nasir.
In court Friday, the four were discharged after Hilda Craig, Senior State Attorney told the court they want to substitute the charge sheet with a new one after their investigations.
She said the Attorney General wants to discharge some of the accused persons.
All three Nigerians Sampson Aghalor, Elvis Ojiyorwe and Jeff Omarsar totherwith one Ghanaian, Yussif Yakubu have been slapped with conspiracy and kidnapping.
Lauren Tilley and Bailey Chitty were rescued by Ghanaian police after being held hostage for a week in July this year.
“Five Ghanaians and three Nigerians are in custody for this incident. One suspect sustained injuries during the rescue operation. Victims have been flown to Accra. Preliminary investigations show they are fine and are receiving the necessary attention,” Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah told the media at a brief press conference.
“They were rescued at Kenyase in a Kumasi suburb. Doctors and psychologists are engaging the victims to give them all the necessary emotional and psychological support,” he added.
