Central Region Gets Solid Waste Treatment Facility 

The Central Regional Minister, Hon Kwamena Duncan together with the Paramount Chief and Chiefs of Mankessim Traditional Area in the Mfantseman Municipality on Friday,20th November 2020 cut sod on behalf of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the construction of an Ultramodern Solid Waste Treatment plant that will serve the entire Central Region. 

 

In his welcome address Mr Kenneth Kelly Essuman, MCE for the Mfantseman Municipal Assembly expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the President Akufo-Addo led government and the Jospong Group Of Companies.

“Let me compliment the Chief and his elders of Krampakrom for the parcel of land he offered us. Nana Krampa in the first place gave us a 14 acres land in the beginning for free.

 

He also commended the Chief for his role by giving them a 100 acre land for the undertaking the project.

Mr Kenneth in his concluding remarks urged the citizenry to support His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s dream of Ghana bring the cleanest city in Africa.

 

Ophelia Mensah Hayford, Parliamentary Candidate for NPP addressing the gathering at the sod-cutting ceremony said the Solid Waste Treatment Plant will be equipped with ultra-modern technology to provide sustainable waste management solution and provide jobs for the youth in the area.

 

Mr Kwamena Duncan, Central Regional Minister Speaking on behalf of President Akufo-Addo expressed his willingness to support the Jospong Group Of Companies to complete the project on time.

” Let me applaud President Akufo-Addo and the Ministry of sanitation and Water Resources for evacuating the illegal dumpsites in the region to guarantee sanitation issues in the region is in the right direction. Under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo central region will benefit from the nationwide Solid Waste Treatment Facility as part of the national cake.”

 

Mr Duncan furthermore, thanked the chief of Krampakrom for providing the parcel of land for the project which will benefit the entire region.

 

 

Mrs Gloria Anti, Deputy Managing Director of the Jospong Group Of Companies(JGL) in her remakes on behalf of the Jospong Group Executive Chairman Dr Joseph Siaw Agyepong outlined the benefits of the facility to the people in the region.

“I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to President Nana Akufo-Addo and we are excited to partner him to explore his vision of making the country clean.

 

Workforce & Benefits

 

Presently, the central region generates about 990,000 tons of waste per month.

 

 

The 400 tons will provide a sustainable solution by not collecting the waste for safer storage but will also recover and recycle over 60 percent of the waste which is organic compost to stimulate the agricultural sector, while adding value to other materials for reuse.

 

 

The benefits of this plant comprises of 250 direct jobs  with about 1500 indirect jobs along the chain. It will also help to drastically improve the health and general well-being of the communities within the catchment area.

 

 

The facility serve these areas in the region Cape Coast, Mfatseman Municipal, Ekumfi, Assin South, Abura Dunkwa, Agona Swedru, Breman Essikuma, Assin Fosu, Winneba and Ajumako Districts.

 

 

Mr Kwaku Quansah from the Ministry of sanitation and water resources on behalf of the sector Minister, Hon Cecilia Abena Dapaah showed his excitement for the project to be constructed in the central region.

He applauded the Jospong Group for setting the pace in the sanitation sector.

“The facility will boost the farming and tourism economy in the region. Waste Management experts must be commended for the bold decision they took to set up these facilities across the country”.

 

He advised the residents, not to litter around the communities but to make sure their refuse is kept at the right place.

 

The Acting President of the Mankessim Traditional Area Okumani Adoku III On his part confided  President Akufo-Addo, Dr Joseph Siaw Agyepong and the Jospong Group, Hon Kwamena Duncan and the Ministry of sanitation and water resources for the construction of the project on their land to reduce the unemployment rate in the region.

 

He therefore on behalf of the Chiefs in the region, showed gratitude to the stakeholders involved in the project which will benefit the entire region.

 

Tremendous Crowd converged at the Mankessim Edumadze School park to have a glimpse of the colourful occasion which will work for the people in the community.
