The leadership of the Colleges of Education Teachers Association (CETAG) has issued a notice to withdraw their services across the 46 public colleges of education, effective Tuesday, August 1.

CETAG has stated that the government has until July 31, 2023, to implement the negotiated allowances agreed upon. This includes the one-off payment of one month’s basic salary, based on CETAG’s salary grade, as compensation for additional duties performed in 2022, as per the National Labour Commission’s Arbitral Award Order issued on May 2, 2023.

The decision to withdraw their services has been prompted by what CETAG describes as a “deliberately prolonged” negotiation process by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) regarding their conditions of service.

The Association has expressed its dissatisfaction with the delayed negotiations and is urging the government to address their concerns promptly. Failure to do so has led to the decision to suspend their services starting from August 1, 2023.

It remains to be seen how the government and CETAG will engage in further negotiations to resolve the impasse and avert any disruptions in the operation of the public colleges of education.
