Change Is Coming: Effutu Constituents Endorse Dr James Kofi Annan over Failed Afenyo-Markin

In a bold move, the people of Effutu Constituency are calling for a change in leadership, rejecting incumbent MP Alexander Afenyo-markin and endorsing Dr. James Kofi Annan for the forthcoming December 7 polls. This shift is driven by a desire for transformation and progress, seeking fresh perspectives and effective leadership to address pressing challenges.

Alexander Afenyo-Markin first entered parliament in 2013, after winning the Effutu constituency seat on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2012. He defeated the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Mike Allen Hammah, in that election. Since then, Afenyo-Markin has been re-elected to parliament and currently serves as the Majority Leader, a position he assumed in February 2024.

During his time in parliament, Afenyo-Markin has held various leadership positions, including Deputy Majority Leader and chairman of the Ghana Water Company Ltd (GWCL). He has also been a member of several committees, including the Committee on Defense and Interior, Finance Committee, and Appointments Committee.Upon all these credentials, his tenure has been criticized for ineffectiveness and disconnection from the constituency’s needs.

Dr. James Kofi Annan’s campaign promises to empower the community through education, skills development, and job creation. He also aims to foster economic growth by supporting local businesses, improving infrastructure, and attracting investments. Furthermore, Annan prioritizes addressing pressing local concerns such as healthcare, sanitation, security, and providing accountable and transparent leadership.

Constituents, who took to the streets in the “Enough is Enough” demonstration, expect their next MP to listen to their concerns, prioritize their needs, foster collaboration and unity among stakeholders, drive development projects that benefit the constituency, and provide accountable and transparent leadership.

As the December polls approach, Effutu Constituency has pledged to vote massively for John Mahama and James Kofi Annan, reflecting their desire for transformative leadership.
