An Activist of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has petitioned Director-General of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to investigate the mystery acquirement of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) Degree by Mr. Alex Blankson, NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Akrofuom Constituency in the Ashanti region.
According to the Petitioner the Parliamentary Candidate (PC) for December 7 polls Alex Blankson, goes by two names on his school certificate and Kofi Afedzi on his passport or travel documents.
This was contained in a petition signed by Nana Kwame Adjei alleging that Mr Blankson submitted fake Degree from UCC and needed to be investigated by the Police to ascertain the authenticity of the certificate to the party.
The petitioner said the PC used the Bachelor of Arts with Second Class Honours in Social Sciences as part of the documents as academic qualification to the New Patriotic Party in his first attempt to contest Parliamentary primaries in 2015.
It said the Akrofuom Constituency Executives of the Party wrote to the University of Cape Coast for verification in order to ascertain the authenticity of documents submitted by Parliamentary aspirant and it turned out that the certificate in question was not issued by the University.
According to the Petitioner the University of Cape Coast said the certificate Numbered 071187 submitted by Mr Blankson was in fact issued to one Mr George Wryther, a past student of UCC who completed his programme of study Bachelor of Arts (Economics) on May 22, 2009.
The petitioner said that the University of Cape Coast explained in the reply to the Executives that Mr. Blankson has never been a student of the university and that the conduct of Parliamentary Candidate should be arrested to establish how he came by that certificate.
It stated that the party decided to qualify him in his bid to contest the 2015 Parliamentary Primaries when Mr. Blankson failed to appear before party’s National Appeal’s Committee.
According to the Petitioner this same Mr. Alex Blankson has re-emerged once again in 2020 to represent the good people of Akrofuom Constituency contest and won the Parliamentary primaries in the New Patriotic Party.
It further stated that it is being alleged that the party has turned deaf ears and is adopting “wait and see “attitude which could be a recipe for disaster to the party in the December 7, polls.
The Petitioner said as a concerned citizen of the country and registered voter in Samsonkrom in the Akrofuom Constituency in the Ashanti Region cannot wait longer but to appeal to Director General of CID of Ghana Police to order investigations into how Mr. Blankson came by the certificate.
It further said an order causing the arrest of Mr. Alex Blankson to face the full rigorous of Criminal laws of the Country with false pretense and forged documents to serve as a deterrent to others.
When Mr. Alex Blankson in a telephone interview said allegations made against him by his accusers were false and unfounded intended to tarnish his hard won reputation.
He said the Party has cleared him after he appeared the vetting and was given the nod to contest and emerged as a winner to defeat six other contestants in the Parliamentary Primaries held in the late April this year.
Other contestants were Mr. Maxwell Sarfo Abu, Mr. Francis Adjei Amponsah, Mr. George Obeng Frimpong, Mr. Kwabena Pobi, Mrs. Faustina Araba Boakye and Mr. Charles Korankye Donkor.
