The Almighty God has blessed our lands with abundant natural resources for socio-economic developments but human activities have desecrated the natural order, Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has said.
According to him, agriculture, water, energy, and the extraction of mineral resources are essential drivers of developments in our countries, but, at the same time, are characteristically sensitive to changing climate.
Speaking on the sideline of Green Ghana Day, the statesman described climate change as a punishment of God due to deforestation and other human activities so we should all join hands in tree planting to restore the lost forest cover of Ghana and to contribute to the global effort to mitigate climate change.
” We have interfered God’s status so the natural order has been desecrated and that is the punishment of God. God loves us and if your son offends you, you punish him to realize his mistakes, so God is punishing us with climate change. Therefore, lets all involve ourselves in the Green Ghana project to plant trees to contribute to the global effort to mitigate climate change” Kufuor admonished.
The Green Ghana Day was introduced as part of a national afforestation and reforestation programme to restore the lost forest cover of Ghana and to contribute to the global effort to mitigate climate change.
