The Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation (MoCD) is making great strides in promoting the National Girls-In-ICT (GIICT) Programme in the Ashanti Region. Led by Naa Korkoi Essah, the Ministry’s Head of Public Relations, they’ve been engaging with various media outlets in Kumasi to raise awareness about the program’s benefits. The Girls-In-ICT Programme, themed “Leadership,” is all about bridging the gender digital divide by empowering young girls with essential ICT skills, building their confidence, and prepping them for opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
The program’s training modules are comprehensive, it covers –
*Computer Programming*: teaching girls the basics of coding and software development –
*Game Development*: introducing girls to the world of game design and creation – *Animation*: teaching girls the art of animation and digital storytelling – *Scratch*: introducing girls to programming concepts using Scratch – *Website Development*: teaching girls how to build and design websites – *Foundational Digital Skills*: providing girls with essential digital literacy skills
Richard Asiamah, Regional Manager for the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), highlighted the government’s commitment to bridging the gender digital divide and GIFEC’s contributions to the initiative. Anthoinet Ohene-Amoah, a Web Master and Lecturer at the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (GI-KACE), also noted the programme’s success in inspiring young girls to embrace technology and innovation. This media outreach is part of a broader effort to engage parents, educators, and community leaders, ensuring sustained stakeholder support and expanding the programme’s impact across the country.
