Three persons have been arrested by police following a deadly clash between land developer and some youth at Emena community in the Oforikrom Municipality of the Ashanti Region over destruction of the town’s cemetery

The three according to report were arrested on Saturday July 8, 2023, when they tried to stop a private individual from creating a new road through the cemetery to her private apartment.

The situation has since caused anger among youth in the area and has since threatened to take the laws into their own hands if the arrested persons are not released.

Confirming the story to Bawa Jese, a student of OTEC School of Journalism and Communication Studies, the Assembly member for Emena-Boadi Appaiahdu-Kokobe electoral area, Kenneth Owusu Bediako said the misunderstanding begun when a private developer decided to pull down graves at the cemetery with machines in an attempt to get a motorable road to her house.

The situation, he noted sparked agitations among some residents in the community and tried to stop the work.

Police were however notified about the impending chaos and rushed to the scene leading to the arrest of three people.

“I came to the cemetery immediately i heard about the situation and i realized indeed some dead bodies and bones have been exposed causing a stir in the community”

“I am yet to meet the person in question but i’m told she came with a court warrant which purportedly gave her the authority to destroy the cemetery’.

“Now residents in the community are boiling over the situation and so I am calling on authorities in the region to find solutions to this problem to avert any future problems “.

Meanwhile, some elders in the community have vowed to resist any attempt by any individual to destroy the town’s cemetery.

They have warned that, whoever will attempt again to cause any additional damage to the cemetery will have to go through the entire residents to achieve that.

The residents have however called on the Manhyia Palace to step into the matter and restore peace in the community
