COVID-19 Fight: Flooding, Cholera and others also waiting to strike– KMA cautions gov’t

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) is cautioning government against a possible outbreak of other infectious diseases like cholera which has become an annual ritual as rainy season approaches, MyNewsGh.com reports.

“Don’t forget about diarrhea, malaria, cholera and flooding while we fight COVID 19” Mr. Osei Assibbey Antwi, Mayor of KMA disclosed.

According to him, while most attention of government, philanthropic organizations and spirited individuals has been driven towards COVID-19 fight, the country has already entered into the rainy season and the possibility authorities may forget to prepare adequately to prevent flooding and its attendant disasters is highly possible.

Mr. Assibbey revealed that, anytime the rainy season approaches, all assemblies focus on desilting and clearing weedy areas but the situation has changed now posing a major health threat to residents.

“This is done to avoid calamities including, diarrhea, breeding of mosquitoes, cholera and flooding. Now our focus should have been on these but we are fighting COVID -19”, he noted.

The Mayor entreated residents while the whole nation is at war with COVID-19, to do well and keep their environment clean in order not to spark filth-related diseases if the rainy season sets in

He hinted that, the KMA would soon deploy sanitary inspectors into communities to supervise healthy living among people within the metropolis.
