Covid-19 restrictions: Public sector salaries will be paid in full – Oppong Nkrumah

Public sector workers who have been affected by restrictions put in place to fight the spread the new coronavirus, will receive their salaries in full, the Information Minister says.

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said this when he was answering questions on JoyNews’ ‘The Lockdown’ programme on Sunday ahead of President Akufo-Addo’s address to the nation of the government’s measures.

“It is my understanding that public sector workers will be paid in full,” he said.

All public and private schools, universities and other institutions have been shut as a control measure against the dreaded virus.

These workers, and other non-essential service providers in the government sector who were affected by the three-week lockdown in Accra and other parts of the country, need not worry about their remunerations, the Minister indicated.

Lockdown lifted

In his 7th address to the nation, President Akufo-Addo lifted a three-week lockdown on Accra, Tema, Kasoa, Tema and Kumasi.

Restrictions on social gatherings including, religious activities, funerals, weddings, clubs, and beaches among others are still in force.

Akufo-Addo reiterated some activities like funerals could be held with a maximum of 25 persons.

The number of confirmed cases of the Covid-19 pandemic has also increased significantly to 1,042 from 834.
