C/R: Police nab man whose suicide bid failed after ‘murdering’ wife

The Assin Darmang District Police is investigating a case of man who has butchered his 27-year-old wife to death at Assin Koforidua in the Central Region.

The suspect, only known as Kwabena and aged 35 is said to have inflicted deep cutlass wounds on his wife Abena, resulting her death.

Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Central Regional Police Command, Sgt. Evans Ettie giving details of this unfortunate incident to the media explained that, the police upon receiving a report on 31st August, proceeded to Assin Koforidua and met the deceased, Abena, dead in a pool of blood with deep cutlass wounds on her head, back and left hand.

The suspect who has been identified as the husband of the deceased was also met lying helpless at the entrance of his house with a deep cut on his neck and blood stains dotted across his whole body.

Police initial investigations indicate that, on the said day, Abena was seen bolting out of her room, with a cutlass wound on her left hand, shouting for help. Soon after, her husband, Kwabena emerged from the same room and chased after her with a cutlass in hand.

A tenant as well as neighbors to the two, approached the scene and met suspect Kwabena who had butchered his wife to death. Kwabena after the act attempted suicide by slitting his throat but failed in the process.

Sgt. Ettie stated that suspect Kwabena was admitted at the St. Francis Xavier hospital in Assin Fosu for treatment under armed guard while body of deceased, Abena who was confirmed dead by the medical officer on duty has been deposited at the same hospital’s morgue for autopsy.

He therefore urged the general public to channel all domestic grievances to the Domestic Voilence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) for the necessary action to be taken for them.
