Dad Shot Daughter Dead After Telling Him She’s Pregnant

Police say that the woman who was killed for her honor in India’s Uttar Pradesh state told her father she was pregnant to try to get her parents to agree to her marriage to a man from a different caste.

Police told the Times of India that Nitesh Kumar Yadav shot his 21-year-old daughter twice in the chest with his licensed revolver during a fight at their home in the village of Modband on Thursday.

The victim, Aayushi Yadav, died at the scene, and her body was put in a suitcase and thrown on the Yamuna expressway on Friday.

Monday, both of Aayushi’s parents were arrested after her body was found and a caller gave police a tip.

Yadav said he killed his daughter “in a fit of rage” after she said she had a stomachache that she thought was because she was pregnant.

Nitesh and Brajbala, his 49-year-old and 45-year-old wives, told police that when they found out about the pregnancy, they would not have been able to face their family and friends.

An autopsy, however, showed that the Bachelor of Computer Applications student was not pregnant.

MP Singh, who is in charge of the police in Agra, says that Aayushi may have tried to get her parents to agree to her marriage last year to Chhatrapal Singh Gurjar, a 24-year-old man she had known since she was in school.

Even though the marriage was legalized and registered in court in October, Singh said that Aayushi wanted her parents to accept it and was “willing” to marry Gurjar again in public.

Before Aayushi died, her mother and father were already angry about her “independent lifestyle.”

After Aayushi told everyone about her marriage to Gurjar earlier this month, things got worse.

Harendra Kumar, a police sub-inspector, said that Aayushi’s parents were not ready to accept the marriage because their daughter was a Yadav and her husband was a Gurjar.
