‘Daily diplomatic activities not suspended’ – Israeli mission in Ghana clarifies

The Israeli Embassy in Accra has said that despite a strike by its diplomats in Ghana, daily diplomatic activities will be carried out.

The mission in Accra said consular services, meetings and events will not be suspended.

The Israeli Embassy in Ghana on Wednesday announced that it has suspended consular services from Wednesday.

“No consular services will be provided and no one will be allowed to enter the Embassy,” the earlier announcement stated.

However, in an update, the Embassy said consular services have not been suspended.

The mission in Accra further stated that the strike by the diplomats was due to internal budgetary issues between the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Israel’s Ministry of Finance.

“This strike action is being carried out by all Israeli Missions abroad,” the update clarified.

Statement by the Embassy of Israel

The Embassy of Israel in Accra would like to clarify that, the embassy has had to suspend all its daily diplomatic activities such as consular services, meetings, and events, as of Wednesday 30 August 2019, due to internal budgetary issues between the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Israel’s Ministry of Finance.

This strike action is being carried out by all Israeli Missions abroad.

Israel and Ghana have good and long-lasting relations, that hopefully will last until the end of days.

The Embassy will continue to give services and resume its diplomatic activities in Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone once the internal difficulties are resolved.

Thank you!
