Damak-IDP Presents Second Sanitation Excellence Awards While Urging Government To Take Creative Steps To Create A Clean Environment

As a matter of national interest, Daniel Mbabugri Akgri, the director of Damak Sanitation Health Watch-Ghana, has urged the government to step up creative measures that would not only guarantee a clean environment but also find long-term solutions to the nation’s sanitation and hygiene problems.

Speaking at the organization’s second Sanitation Excellence Awards, it was underlined that despite efforts by the government and other organizations, sanitation has not been improving significantly. The sector has seen negligible change, which indicates that more work needs to be done in the area of sanitation and hygiene.

He pointed out that numerous organizations, including the government, have attempted to develop solutions with local and international approaches but have been unsuccessful.

In light of all these unsuccessful strategies, Damak Sanitation Health Watch Ghana, in partnership with the International Direct Project (IDP) from Switzerland, also known as “DAMAK-IDP,” has implemented a new, cutting-edge technology that uses Digital Address system codes to assess community performance and contributions as well as electoral areas.

Additionally, our media reporters also help in monitoring the performance of the selected areas in the blind eye of Assembly Members and other selected institutions.

Mr. Daniel Mbabugri went on to say that the system’s user-friendly design aids in calculating each electoral area’s percentage score, which ranges from 1 to 100 (%). According to him, this will guarantee openness and sincerity in choosing winners based on their contributions and performance rather than merit.

Five members of the assembly and five additional organizations received honors in 2023 for that purpose. Nevertheless, the number of people who were recognized for their efforts to create a safe and clean environment in the Ashanti Region has grown from 10 to 16.

Pierre P. Petitjean, the Director of the International Direct Project (IDP), addressed the awardees, saying that sanitation is essential to human life and that when the earth becomes polluted due to environmental pollution, it may have to face dire consequences for our children and future generations if immediate action is not taken to address the sanitation issue.

Nonetheless, he requested the recipients and others to support Damak Sanitation Health Watch-Ghana so that they can work together to improve the environment for coming generations.
