Residents of Buoho-Achina in the Afigya Kwabre South District of the Ashanti are currently living in fear due to the alleged storage of dynamites in the area.
The suspected dynamites , according to residents, have been stored in a 40 feeter container at a residential area closer to a stone blasting site in the area.
Some residents in the area who agreed to speak to OTEC News Kwame Agyenim Boateng on condition of anonymity lamented that the “dangerous ” siting of the suspected dynamites in the residential is uncalled for.
A resident who lives few meters away from the container said the development, has the propensity to cause havoc which situation can lead to loss of lives and properties.
And with the recent dynamite explosion at Apiate still fresh in the minds of many Ghanaians, the residents consequently called on agencies like the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA),Ghana Mines Commission to, as a matter of urgency, see to the relocation of the suspected dynamites.
“Honesty I have been in constant fear since I heard the recent explosion at Apiate”.A resident and a taxi driver in the area lamented.
“This container storing the alleged dynamites have been here for several years and it’s just until recently that we learnt about how dangerous the product could be”.He said.
One woman who unanimously spoke to OTEC News said the swift relocation of the container would go a long way to avert any disaster in the area.
They disclosed that multiple stone quarry sites have been operating near residential area in the community causing major problems for residents there.
They claimed that relevant regulatory institutions either failed to execute their mandated duties or were complicit on their job.
Meanwhile the Director of ESM Qurries Limited Mr Sarpong who’s the owners of the container has vehemently denied the allegations that they are storing dynamite in the area
He challenged anyone who doubt their stand to visit the site and verify the content in the container.
