The Youth and Sports Sub – Committee of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly ( K.M.A) made a politeness call on the three (3) Sub Metros within Kumasi to interact with the youth with the assess to their continuous playing of sports activities especially soccer or football during this pandemic.
The Committee visited three (3) sub Metros namely; Subin, Manhiya South and Manhiya North. The Communities in which the Committee visited were;
- Akwatialine – Borla Park.
- Ash Town – Konadu Yiadom and Atipenhene parks.
- Duase – Dote – Duase Park.
- Asem – Asem Park
The Committee addressed K.M.A’s “Anti – Stigmatization of covid-19 Campaign club.
On their arrival to those various grounds, some of the youth were on the park playing soccer games whiles government and Ministry of Youth and Sports have ban all sports activities due to the spread of the covid-19.
The foremost of the committee Mr Kwasi Kwarteng, the convener, speaking to Enfransmedia.com editor, lamented that, as we are all aware, the world is hit hard with the outbreak of the Corona virus pandemic, including our country Ghana not spared of it’s devastating effects. On behalf of the youth and Sports Sub – Committee and Kumasi, Major Hon Osei Assibey-Antwi, we are advising the youth to desists from all sports activities especially football games and heed to the president’s directives on sports activities.
According to Mr Kwarteng, sports activities especially soccer games is the fastest way by which the Corona virus can spread as there is a lot off body contact during playing.
He added that, the committee is to increase the effort of the Assembly in the fights against the world enemy (Covid-19).
He also said that, “we are here to speak to them in a Peaceful way and if they fail to buy our advice, then we will enforce the law on them”.
The committee has a lot of plans for the youth on sports and we will deliver that in a due time for all to benefit from it.
Speaking on behalf of the youth or players who misapplied the president’s directives, Mr Shaibu Yakubu, accept the Advises from the committee and also promised on the entire players behalf not to participate in any sports activities (football games) until the further notice will be announce.
