Dr. Bawumia Should Immediately Resign for Breach of Presidential Elections Code of Conduct – Active Ladies of NPP

The New Patriotic Party (NPP), on Tuesday 27th July 2021, through its General Secretary, Mr. John Boadu issued a code of conduct to regulate the conduct of party members ahead of the 2024 presidential and parliamentary primaries for the party.

The new code of conduct which was adopted by the National Council in accordance with Article 18 of the NPP constitution, is to guide party members prior to the opening of nominations for the primaries ahead of the 2024 General elections, and also mandate all members of the NPP at all levels to refrain from using media platforms to attack the integrity of other members, particularly leading members perceived to be nurturing presidential or parliamentary ambitions. The new regulations established further seek to prevent gatherings camouflaged as activities which have the tendency of promoting the interest of a prospective presidential or parliamentary candidate.

It is therefore alarming and disturbing to find out that, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President of the Republic of Ghana and his political apparatchiks such as the North East Regional Secretary, Northern Regional Organiser, among others, are forcing polling station executives across the two hundred and seventy-five (275) constituencies in the Country to endorse his presidential candidature prematurely. These endorsements which some executives refused and resisted brought about chaos, and through that, resulted in the abrupt ending of the Delegates’ Conference in some parts of the Northern Region.

It is sufficing to note that, not only is Dr. Bawumia forcing the potential delegates for endorsements but he is also influencing potential delegates with money through the donation of five thousand (5,000) GH cedis for each of the two hundred and seventy-five (275) constituencies in addition to ten thousand (10,000) GH cedis for each of the sixteen (16) Regions in the ongoing constituency conferences across the Country.

We see these deliberate gross misdemeanours as a direct vote-buying scheme, because, all monetary benefits have been catered for by the Party through budgetary provision to each Constituency for the conduct of the annual conference. We, therefore, see no basis for Dr. Bawumia to further send these money to the constituencies when he had left them completely neglected and has never deemed it necessary to attend to their needs over the years.

It is so lurid that a person of the calibre of the Vice President together with some self-seeking party avaritias would intentionally commit this flub just to quench their parochial thirst for power.

We, therefore, call on Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to step down as Vice President so that he can have ample time to concentrate on his presidential ambition since he cannot comply with the code of conduct of the Political Party on whose ticket he has gotten the opportunity to serve this great nation.

We also call on the National Complaints Committee to investigate this complaint of violations of the code of conduct by Dr. Bawumia and his political surrogates and sanction them accordingly.

Moreover, the encumbrance in addition rests on the National Council of the party to apply the necessary sanctions if they really meant all the standards stipulated in the code of conduct. We believe such a firm stance would further prevent others from committing similar infractions.

God is King
