As Muslims across the country celebrate the annual Eid-ul-Fitr festival, marking the culmination of a month of fasting and prayers, Dr. Mike Amofa Dankwah, a distinguished philanthropist, has shared insightful perspectives on the profound impact of Ramadan on individuals and society.
According to Dr. Amofa Dankwah, the month-long fasting period is a transformative experience that enables Muslims to suppress their passions and desires, cultivating a heightened sense of self-awareness and spiritual discipline. “The incessant fasting of a whole month inculcates in them the consciousness of duty and the spirit of patience,” he emphasized.
Dr. Amofa Dankwah further highlighted the far-reaching effects of fasting on society, noting that it fosters a sense of unity and brotherhood among Muslims, irrespective of their social status. “Fasting has its immense impact on society, for all Muslims, irrespective of their status, must fast during the same month, whether it falls in rain or shine,” he stated.
The philanthropist also underscored the significance of Ramadan in promoting piety, purity, and self-reflection. “During the month of Ramadan, evil conceals itself while good comes to the fore, and the whole atmosphere is filled with piety and purity,” he observed.
In emphasizing the importance of maintaining a righteous and noble character during Ramadan, Dr. Amofa Dankwah cited the prophetic wisdom of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), who said, “Fasting is a shield for you (as it saves you from sins in this world and protects you from hell in the hereafter)” (Muslim).
Dr. Amofa Dankwah cautioned that true fasting entails more than mere abstinence from food and drink; it demands a commitment to spiritual growth, self-reflection, and righteous living. “Piousness is the real touchstone of fasting. Abstinence from eating, drinking, and sexual pleasure means that the Muslim should devote his time to Allah. Otherwise, his fasting is nothing but starvation,” he advised.
In conclusion, Dr. Amofa Dankwah urged Muslims to embody the values of Ramadan throughout the year, cultivating a life of noble influence and divine guidance. “Muslims ought to lead a holy life not only during the month of fasting but should practice it every day, as postulated in the Quran,” he emphasized.
