Before Daddy Lumba’s arrival, Ofori Amponsah took the stage to pay tribute to him.
“Before my father comes on stage, I’d like to say something. My father, Daddy Lumba, was more than a prophet. From the moment he saw me, he told me I was a star. Daddy, I love you so much.
“There are some people who don’t respect or acknowledge their mentors once they achieve greatness, but I hold this man in the highest regard,” Ofori Amponsah said.
As he spoke, a member of Daddy Lumba’s team approached and told him to make way for Daddy Lumba.
Ofori Amponsah anticipated that he would continue praising Daddy Lumba in person when he joins him on stage, but the highlife legend seemed displeased.
When Daddy Lumba arrived, Ofori Amponsah immediately knelt before him as a sign of respect.
He then attempted to hug Daddy Lumba, but the legend swerved the embrace and signaled for Ofori Amponsah to leave the stage.
Videos of the incident have since circulated online, with many netizens criticizing Daddy Lumba for embarrassing Ofori Amponsah, who had shown him nothing but respect throughout his speech.
They described Daddy Lumba as intolerant and unable to conceal his emotions in public.
Ofori Amponsah and Daddy Lumba’s feud
There have long been allegations regarding mishandled finances during Ofori Amponsah’s time working with Daddy Lumba.
Recently, Ofori Amponsah acknowledged that while there were misunderstandings about money, focusing solely on the negatives would overlook Daddy Lumba’s significant contributions to his life and career.
Addressing their long-standing feud in an interview with Zionfelix in 2023, Ofori Amponsah stated that, despite not having the best relationship, he could never speak ill of Daddy Lumba.
Ofori Amponsah began working with Daddy Lumba in 1999 after gaining entry into the music industry through their collaboration on the album Wo Ho Kyere.
