ECG disconnects Ho Airport, Volta GRA, Ho Tech Uni., KFC over power debts

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has disconnected power supply to some institutions in Ho in the Volta region.

Power supply was cut to the Ho Airport which owes the power distributing company GHS63,000 on Monday, 20 March 2023.

The Ho Technical University, the regional office of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), KFC, the Customs Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) Training Academy in Kpetoe were all disconnected over debts owed the ECG.

“The company has disconnected KFC for owing GHS68,000, Ho Airport for owing GHS63,000, GRA Office for owing GHS55,000, CEPS training academy for owing GHS80,000, and Ho Technical University for owing GHS402,000,” a statement issued by the ECG and signed by its Volta Regional Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Obeng Atwi revealed.

The Ho Technical University paid GHS 200,000 following crunch talks with the ECG.

The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), which owed the ECG GHS1,400,000 made an upfront payment of GHS1,000,000 and has been given a month to pay up the arrears of GHS400,000.

The ECG further appealed to customers to pay their bills to avoid disconnection.

“We want customers to prioritise the payment of bills and this will enable us to collect more revenue to keep the power sector operating.

“The company is appealing to all customers to make payment before the disconnection team visits their premises,” the statement stressed.

Also, “Customers can make payments at any bank or through mobile money. Customers can also pay by dialling *226# or by downloading the ECG PowerApp”.

Meanwhile, the ECG’s revenue mobilisation exercise has entered day 2, today, Tuesday, 21 March 2023.

The ECG, is embarking on a nationwide revenue mobilisation exercise.

The nationwide revenue mobilisation exercise, began on Monday, 20 March 2023, and will end on Thursday, 20 April 2023.

The exercise is focused on “all categories of customers in arrears including State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), and will be monitored by special teams who will apprehend and prosecute customers who attempt to interfere with the exercise, and/or undertake illegal self-reconnection after disconnection,” the ECG revealed in a public notice.
