ECG worker commits suicide at Assin Wiawso

A worker of the Electricity Company of Ghana has hanged himself in a bush at Assin Wiawso in the Assin North District of the Central Region.

The deceased identified as Kwadwo Asare 36, hails from Nsawam in the Eastern Region but lives and works in one of the branches of ECG in Accra.

According to reports, he was early this year diagnosed with a strange ailment which made his family seek treatment from Pastors, Mallams, and traditional medicine practitioners but to no avail.

According to his younger brother Ayuba, who lives in Assin Wiawso, he came across a spiritualist who claims he can cure his brother of his predicaments so he invited him over to meet the spiritualist. He was afterward placed on medication for a few weeks.

The deceased later came back to the town to meet the spiritualist and was accompanied by his brother.

Late in the afternoon, Kwadwo Asare decided to leave to Accra, Ayuba then accompanied him to the lorry station and personally bought his ticket for him. He said he’d wanted to wait until the bus sets off but later decided to leave when it was almost full.

Ayuba said not long after, he saw many people trooping to a particular direction in the bush with the news that an unknown person had committed suicide.

He proceeded to the scene to witness the incident only to have the greatest shock of his life seeing his brother hanging on a tree dead.

The matter was reported to Assin Praso Police who arrived at the scene to find the bus ticket and unspecified amount of money in the deceased pocket alongside his mobile phone which had recorded many missed calls.

According to the police, the last person he spoke to before killing himself was his wife. It has emerged that the deceased developed mental problem after his health condition deteriorated.

The body has since been conveyed to the New Edubiase morgue.
