Election 2020: Mahama is a bigger problem than the voter register – Wontumi

“The main problem of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) as the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana plans to prepare a new voters’ register for the December 7 polls is the party’s flagbearer, John  Dramani Mahama, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako alias Chairman Wontumi claims.

“Mahama himself is the problem not the new register that will come into existence”, Chairman Wontumi said in an interview on his network, Wontumi TV/Radio.

Chairman Wontumi explained that “even in 2016, the NDC had the old register to their advantage but the NPP won. The NDC had the Chairperson of the EC and IGP on their side but we still won. John Mahama had all the money but he lost. They know their problem is their  flagbearer and not the new register”

The leadership of the NDC through their General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has given an indication that they will create chaos to stop the EC from compiling a new voter register for the 2020 general elections .

According to the NDC, the EC’s motive will not promote a free,  fair  and transparent election and possibly disenfranchise most Ghanaians in the upcoming general elections.

In an interview, the NDC scribe stated that “we are all part of the framers of the constitution and have placed the EC in charge of our elections in order to maintain the country’s democracy so that whoever becomes president is the only one duly elected by Ghanaians. Therefore if in the course of your duty we feel that you are not doing what Ghanaians are paying you to do, every Ghanaian has the right to say it as it is”
