*Election 2020: Sharing of Covid 19 food and loans affected NPP – NPP Chairman

The Second Vice Chairman for Suame Constituency of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Mr Richard Asante, says Majority of Ghanaians failed to vote for the ruling party due to the discrimination in the sharing of Covid-19 relief items and loans.
The leadership of the party, he said, was hopeful such intervention could influence people to vote for the party.
Speaking to  a section of the media in Kumasi, Mr Asante, disclosed there were discrimination in the sharing of food both cooked and uncooked by the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives, (MMDCEs) thereby provoking the neglected ones to vote against the party.
He said government’s decision to support the vulnerable during the lockdown period was laudable but the district Assemblies mismanaged it to the advantage of their loved ones.
According to him, the disbursement of loans  by government through NBSSI, also affected the party.
The Vice Chairman noted that most Ghanaians who failed to get the loans were demotivated and became furious at the government.
Some Constituencies executives, he said, were annoyed in the selectiveness of the process which made their various campaigns difficult.
“Most Ghanaians, who applied for the loans were refused hence became disappointed in the NPP government and opted to vote against the party’  Mr Asante said.
Mr Asante was unhappy at the financial strength displayed by some NPP Parliamentary candidates during the primaries leading to what he called ‘the highest payer wins the seat’.
The money, he said, also infuriated Ghanaians who are not delegates of the party therefore decided not to vote for such Parliamentary candidates believing those who collected the money during the primaries should vote for their candidates.
Mr Asante therefore called for the expansion of the electoral college of party to enable all card bearing members to vote during the primaries to do away with the ‘monecracy’ syndrome.
