Electricity tariff relief to cost Gov’t GHS1 billion – Amewu

Government is providing a cumulative electricity tariff relief of an amount equivalent to about GHS1 billion, the Minister for Energy, John Peter Amewu has disclosed.

This approximately covers a customer population of bout 4.8 million meters across the country for the three month period beginning April, May and June.

He made this known in a Press briefing organised by the Information Ministry on Thursday, April, 16, 2020 to highlight the electricity rebates by government in the wake of the covid-19 outbreak in the country.

The government says it will fully cover the bills of low-income consumers of electricity in the country for April, May and June 2020 to cushion the public as the country battles the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The remaining consumers who fall outside that bracket will enjoy a 50 percent reduction in the cost of electricity for the same period.
