The Ellis Mothers Hope Foundation, a dedicated non-profit organization, has made a significant donation to underprivileged and expectant mothers at Mamprobi Hospital. The donation, which includes a complete set of essential baby items and an undisclosed amount of money, aims to support mothers during and after pregnancy.
Speaking to the media, Victoria Otoo-Aidoo, the founder of Ellis Mothers Hope Foundation, highlighted the organization’s commitment to assisting vulnerable mothers. She explained that there is an assessment process conducted by the hospital once pregnant and underprivileged mothers begin antenatal care. These mothers are then referred to the Ellis Mothers Hope Foundation for further support.
“Our objective is to take care of mothers before birth and up to one year after birth. We also look into ways to help them survive and invest in their future,” Otoo-Aidoo stated. She emphasized the foundation’s goal to ensure that mothers are not only supported during pregnancy but also equipped with resources and guidance to thrive post-birth.
Several mothers who have previously received donations shared their experiences, expressing gratitude for the continuous support provided by the foundation. They testified that the assistance extended beyond childbirth, with ongoing care and attention from the foundation.
Founded in June 2020, during the challenging times of the global COVID-19 pandemic, the Ellis Mothers Hope Foundation was established to address the increased economic hardships faced by expectant mothers. Initially based at Saltpond Hospital in the Central Region, the foundation has now expanded its operations to Accra.
The mission of the foundation is to improve the lives of vulnerable expectant mothers and underprivileged mothers within the communities it serves. Their vision is to extend their reach across Ghana, ensuring more regions benefit from their support. The foundation’s aims include improving healthy birth outcomes, educating on family planning and childcare, reducing mortality rates, and empowering young girls to achieve independence before starting families.
The success of the Ellis Mothers Hope Foundation is attributed to the collective efforts of midwives, district nurses, health visitors, doctors, and social workers at Saltpond Hospital and Mamprobi Hospital. This collaboration ensures that the foundation’s ethos of providing comprehensive care and support is effectively fulfilled.
