Obour could be prosecuted over COVID-19 protocol breaches – Oppong Nkrumah hints

Minister for Information Mr. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has revealed that musician Bice Osei Kuffour popularly known as Obour could be prosecuted if it is established that he indeed breached the law on public gathering.

The musician at the weekend organized a funeral for his father Nana Osei Boansi Kuffour with reports suggesting it was in violation to the restriction order given by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

But the Minister who was speaking to the allegations on Joy TV monitored by MyNewsGh.com said “If it was not a private burial with not more than 25 persons and they proceeded to have a funeral then, it will be in breach of the procedure that have been imposed. Therefore security agencies would have to act accordingly”.

Obour’s father, Nana Osei Boansi Kuffour, who was Chief of the Oyoko clan of Juaso died on March 27 at the Ridge hospital in Accra after testing positive for Covid-19.

He was laid in state during last weekend at his family house with mourners filing past at Juaso in the Asante Akyem Municipality in Ashanti Region.

Family members kept vigil and performed burial rights before he was interred at the Royal cemetery at Jusao, the report claimed

With the current protocols, the family was expected to seek permission from the health directorate of the area but this did not happen as the Regional Director of Health, Dr. Emmanuel Tinkorang revealed that his outfit was not notified.

Municipal Chief Executive Officer for Asante Akyem South, Alexander Frimpong, also denied having knowledge of the burial but the family insisted they sought permission from authorities which was duly granted

Whiles the family confirmed Nana Osei Boansi Kuffour died of COVID 19 the Ofoase Ayirebi MP Kojo Oppong Nkrumah denied having any knowledge about the coronavirus status of the deceased.

He noted that, “As I sit with you now, I do not have any brief that says Obour’s father is validated to have died of COVID 19 related dead”.
