Exams paper not ballot paper; erase Akufo-Addo’s face on it – NDC boy to GES

A youth activist of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the University of Education Winneba – Mampong Campus, Mr. Oscar Klabla Bedzra has charged the Ghana Education Service (GES) to take swift action to erase the photograph of President Akufo-Addo from the mock examination papers some students in the Amansie West District Assembly in the Ashanti Region.

According to the former TEIN Secretary of UEW Mampong Campus, the development “in a broader sense is not in conformity with the codes and ethics of the Ghana Education service as usually practised in our examination endeavours and procedures.”

Mr. Bedzra in an article emphasised that “examination papers are not political materials or ballot papers and neither should an examination paper from the Ghana Education Service, intended for administering to students /pupils, in any case, reflect image(s) of any political party/politician”

Some few days ago the examination papers that have the president picture printed on the front page went viral on social media with many Ghanaians questioning the basis for that action.

GHANA EDUCATION SERVICE MUST ACT TO SWIFTLY ERASE THE PRESIDENT’S IMAGE FROM THE FRONT PAGE OF A MOCK EXAMINATION PAPER. IT IS NOT A BALLOT PAPER

I write as a student activist to swiftly register my displeasure and in addition, inform the Ghana Education Service as well as the republic as a whole, of a development which in a broader sense is not in conformity with the codes and ethics of the Ghana Education service as usually practiced in our examination endeavours and procedures.

I make this timely call following a mock examination paper I sighted in the Amansie West District. A mock paper intended for administering to students as part of their formative assessment and that clearly bears the image of the president of the republic, H.E Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo on its front page and carries the formats/features of a usual mock examination material right from the information needed to the instructions.

Additional information on the examination materials I sighted suggests that these mock papers take their route from the Amansie West District Assembly and that, was printed by a publication firm at Tanoso in Kumasi , in the Ashanti regional capital of the country.

Indeed , I see this act as unfortunate and irresponsible on the part of these Education Authorities in the Amansie West District and the Ashanti Regional Directorate of the Ghana Education Service because I have never sighted any official examination material intended for administering to learners which bears any identity of either the president, a political party or any other political figure

I wish to put on records that, examination papers are not political materials or ballot papers and neither should an examination paper from the Ghana Education Service, intended for administering to students /pupils, in any case, reflect image(s) of any political party/politician.

I wish to by this medium additionally state that, this act is highly condemnable and never must we as a country allow our children to be misled by any attempt to either promote a failed political figure, or demote any political figure as well and that, I rise to boldly and courageously condemn this act of political mislead.

I call on the Ashanti regional directorate of the Ghana Education service to as a matter of urgency , invite the Amansie West district director of education to answer legitimate questions on why he/she tolerated and entertained such an act of what I describe as a political mislead and examination nightmare and why he/she (Amansie West District Director of Education) does not stand the chance of being sacked.

I call on the media to as well intervene in this situation and expose this act which is a possible evil to the integrity of the Ghana Education Service during this period of Ghana’s Education where we are as a country , struggling to find a lasting solution to distancing education from politics.

Lastly , I want to use this medium to encourage Ghanaians not only to be vigilant , but extra vigilant in attempts to register the image of any political party(ies) or politician(s) on the front page of any examination paper either from the West African Examination Council (WAEC) or the Ghana Education Service .

Thank you. …..!!!!
