Farmer sentenced to die by hanging over murder of Okada rider

Justice Olukayode Ogundana of an Ekiti State High Court has sentenced one Ajakaiye Toyin to death by hanging for the murder of one Afe Omoniyi, a commercial motorcyclist.

Toyin had engaged the service of Omonyi on August 23, 2022, to convey him from Agbado-Ekiti to his farm along Ode -Ekiti road.

They agreed on a fare of NGN150.

However, when they got to the farm, Toyin paid NGN200 and asked for a balance of NGN 100.

The Okada rider objected and gave him N50 change.

A fight ensued thereafter and the convict strangled the Okada man to death by tying a rope around his neck, he also dug a shallow grave and buried him.

Toyin, who had earlier been detained for stealing goats, was apprehended by passersby who handed him over to the police.

The Director of Public Prosecutions, Julius Ajibare, who prosecuted the case for the State, called 4 witnesses and tendered 7 exhibits to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.

Ajakaiye Toyin has now been sentenced to death 4 years after he killed the okada rider.
