Fire destroys 30 shops at Kumasi Central market

Fire has engulfed about 30 shops at the Kumasi Central Market in the Ashanti Region Sunday night.

The fire started around 9 p.m Sunday at an area occupied by shoemakers.

Items worth thousands of Cedis which were destroyed include finished shoes, wooden and petroleum and wooden products.

Firefighters had a tough time dousing the fire as it took them over two hours to bring it under control due to poor access to the market and interference from traders.
