Former Auditor General Daniel Domelevo Speaks About Akuapem Poloo’s Court Case

Former Auditor-General Daniel Yaw Domelevo has waded into the Akuapem Poloo sentencing controversy, pleading that the Courts temper justice with mercy by forgiving her.

Known formally as Rosemond Alade Brown, Akuapem Poloo was arrested and charged for posting a nude picture of herself and her seven-year-old son. The three charges against her include publication of obscene materials, engaging in domestic violence that undermines another person’s privacy or integrity and engaging in domestic violence, namely conduct that in any way detracts or is likely to detract from another person’s dignity and worth as a human being.

She pleaded guilty and is due for sentencing today, April 16, 2021. But the former Auditor General, respected for his ruthless application of anti-corruption laws while he was Auditor-General, has asked that the judge tamper justice with mercy by forgiving her.

His plea is supported by many on social media who are calling on the Court to not put her to jail given that she is a single mother.

Some prominent lawyers have argued that Akuapem Poloo should not have pleaded guilty so that the prosecution would have proven its case beyond every reasonable debt so that the constitutionality of the charges would have been put to test.

The case continues to provoke discussion ahead of her sentencing today Friday April 16, 2021
