Four Ugandan police officers face dismissal for arresting bride at wedding reception

A Ugandan police officer who arrested a bride during her wedding reception is currently in jail over charges of unprofessionalism and exhibiting lack of judgment.

A police statement said three others who he acted with are currently on the run. The statement said the arrest was “reprehensible and based on poor judgement.”

“It turned out that what was supposed to be the happiest day of her life ended in a nightmare,” police spokesman Fred Enanga said in the statement

The unnamed bride according to local media reports was arrested on Saturday night, and driven to a police station in the town of Mbarara, in western Uganda, where she was detained overnight. She was released on Sunday.

All four police officers face dismissal from the force if found guilty.

The bride’s former employee was the complainant who got her arrested over monies she is accused of improperly taking.

Police are also investigating a case of possible collusion on the part of the complainant and the officers.
