Fulani Herdsmen in Bloody Attack Was Caused By Misunderstanding over A Rope – Police

A preliminary investigation by Asesewa Police in the Eastern Region has revealed that the bloody cutlass fight which led to the hacking of five Fulani herdsmen was caused by disagreement over the rope.

Asesewa police had a distress phone call from Akateng on July 22, 2020, that some Fulani herdsmen were fighting among themselves with cutlasses at the old animal market at Akateng.

Armed Police Personnel were quickly dispatched to the scene upon receipt of information and found five of the Fulani herdsmen – Omaro Belo, 27, Belo Aliu, 25, Omaro Ali, 27, Mahamadu Moro, 28 and Omaru Abubakar, 30, lying in a pool of blood.

Omaro Belo’s right-hand wrist was cut off, Belo Ali was inflicted with a deep cut on the forehead, while Mohamadu Moro’s throat was slashed while others sustained various injuries.

Omaro Bello was referred to Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua where he was admitted to the surgical ward.

On the next day, police proceeded to the Regional hospital to interrogate him and took his statement

He told Police that, in June 2020 his friend called  Jiji from Donkorkrom brought a bull to the animal market at Akateng which son of one Alhaji Hilli from Nkawkaw bought it and he also sold it out to the different person

He explained further that, Jiji demanded his rope which he used to tire the animal to the market but the buyer told him unless he takes it from the one whom he also sold the animal to

He said on the fateful day of July 22, 2020, Jiji went to the market and met the said young man and demanded his rope again and it nearly turned to a fight but  Jiji left to onboard the ferry to Donkorkrom but alleged that Alhaji Hilli authorized his Fulani herdsmen to attack Jiji for displaying gross disrespect.

This led to a reprisal cutlass attack leading to the injuries.
