Collaborate With Zoomlion For Continuous Medical Waste Collection – Govt Told

The Municipal Health Director at the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly in the Upper East Region Mr. Edmund Nyanwura has appealed to the President Akufo-Addo led government to collaborate more closely with Zoomlion Ghana Limites to collect the medical waste generated in the region not on terminal basis but regularly to prevent infections.

According to him, it is good the government brought Zoomlion on board for the collection of the medical waste in the ongoing nationwide vaccination exercise.

“But in the absence of incinerators, waste management company like Zoomlion with all the expertise to treat and dispose of the waste for us we would be grateful. We would actually be happy if this collaboration between the government and Zoomlion continues because this is not the first time we have generated medical waste”.

During the yellow fever vaccination, we generated much more of that because we vaccinated sixty per cent of the population in the Upper East region.

” That was very high and generated a lot much more medical waste. For us, we always encoureage such collaborations so which will ennure to the benefit of the clients and the safety of everybody that is what we will advocate for”.

He noted that most of the activities done by the Ghana Health Service are collaborative motivated.

He said for us in the health service, we know that most of our activities are collaborative. We are not in competition in health but we collaborate. If we will give our professional work and Zoomlion will dispose the waste for us we don’t have a problem but really we need some incinerators built-in all health facilities”.

On his part, Mr Issaka Abdallah, Deputy Regional Manager of Zoomlion in the Upper East Region said that they deployed well-trained personnel to all the centres in the region where the vaccination is taking place.

“Once it’s vaccination exercise there is a possibility of a health risk that will posed to the public. For instance, people could contract diseases such as HIV, Hypertension among other transmitted and that is what we are trying to stop by collecting, treatingand disposing of such medical waste to avert infections”.
