End the DOOM and GLOOM education system in Ghana now – EGS Boss

The ardent educationist, author, motivational speaker and CEO of EGS has called on the MoE, NaCCA and GES to as a matter of urgency approve and distribute the textbooks to complete the implementation of the new standards based curriculum and avert doom education.

“Education is a human right with immense power to transform. On its foundation rest the cornerstones of freedom, democracy and sustainable human development” –  Kofi Annan

It may marvel you if I tell you that no serious and efficient teaching and learning is taking place in our various basic schools. The truth of the matter is that, the new curriculum which was introduced comes without even a single textbook  and other teaching materials. The curriculum itself has also not been adequately provided.

Most teachers saw it only during the training. And also, NaCCA forbids teachers from purchasing and using unapproved textbooks from the market.

What a shame on a nation! Where are the responsible wise men we used to have in this country? If something is not done quickly to rectify this, I am afraid it will get out of hands.

You have introduced a new curriculum which is one of the nicest as compared to others and that is not bad. But a question worthy of asking is, why can’t you provide the necessary textbooks to make teaching and learning effective for both teachers and students?

With worries written all over our faces, Educate Ghana Summit is pleading with those who are responsible to act quickly because our student’s future is at stake. Teachers are frustrated struggling to teach without the textbooks. Parents are giving up on the trust they have in Ghana education system. Publishers are starving.

Sadly, most of your children are not part. And you’re happier because you care less.

The Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service and NaCCA must do their possible best to provide the necessary materials to facilitate effective teaching and learning under the new curriculum.

I was abundantly shocked when these issues were coming up after the introduction of the beautiful new curriculum. Should this even be a topic for discussion? Is this not a shame to the nation? Something has to be done and very fast.

“Education is a better safeguard of liberty than a standing army” – Edward Everett
