Ghana very peaceful – Peace Council

Ghana is a peaceful place to live and do business compared to some other West African countries, the Executive Secretary to the National Peace Council, Mr George Amoh, has told the host of Ghana Yensom on Accra100.5FM, Kwabena Prah Jnr. on Thursday, 19 July 2019.

Mr Amoh noted that although there have been pockets of violence and criminal activities in Ghana, generally, the country can be described as a peaceful nation.

Ghana’s rank as the 42nd most peaceful nation in the world is a testament to his assertion, Mr Amoh noted.

The authorities in Ghana, he said, must, however, work hard to further reduce the pockets of violence and crime in the country.

Recently, Ghana was ranked the 44th peaceful nation in the world and 4th in Africa by the Global Peace Index.

Afghanistan, according to the 2019 Global Peace Index, is the least peaceful country, replacing Syria, which is now the second least peaceful.

“Iceland remains the most peaceful country in the world, a position it has held since 2008. It is joined at the top of the index by New Zealand, Austria, Portugal, and Denmark. Bhutan has recorded the largest improvement of any country in the top 20, rising 43 places in the last 12 years,” the report said.

South Sudan, Yemen, and Iraq comprised the remaining five least peaceful countries.
