Residents in major towns of Kpando in the Volta Region on Friday 12th November 2021 have embarked on a demonstration over the deplorable state of their roads.

Hundreds of residents who came out for the demonstration were from Torkor, Dzigbe and Avetikorpe among other surrounding areas in the Kpando Municipality.

Speaking to the media, Convener for the demonstrators, Divine Akwensivieare called on the Municipal Assembly to engage contractors to resume work on the roads at the earliest opportunity.

“The focus of our petition is the deplorable nature of the following roads, that’s the 4km Kpando-Torkor road, the 3km Dzigbe Junction – Dzikpe roads, the 2km Dzewi to Dzigbe road and the 3km Dzigbe, Avetikorpe Torko roads.

“In spite of the strategic and economic importance that the Torkor township holds for the Kpando Municipality as well as other towns, their major roads have not seen any repairs in a long while,” he stated.

The Convener stated that they believe that governance is a continuous process and the petition is not against any particular government.

He disclosed that both past and present governments have failed to fix the roads that bring economic gains to the people.

The Regent of Kpando Dzigbe, Gabriel Bavor addressing the people also stated that the bad nature of the road from Avetikorpe is hindering easy transportation of foodstuffs from the villages to their towns.

“The situation is not helping the Kpando market as a result of lack of foodstuff for the market women. So we are pleading with authorities to fix the roads or else we will be forced to close the Torkor market,” he threatened.
